BCB’s April Newsletter: After the rains

30 Apr, 2024

Good Afternoon

Over the last 10½ years we’ve often written about the UAE’s summer heat and its impact on the annual business calendar; I didn’t ever expect that I’d be sending a monthly update on rainfall and floods in Dubai.

First and foremost, thankfully, all of the BCB team remained safe and sound – if a little soggy – throughout the 16th April storms. We reverted to working from home for the whole week whilst the country-wide clean-up operation got underway, the floods ebbed, roads reopened and access improved.

Whilst the full economic impact of this deluge will take some time to be fully emerge, we’re sharing here a curated update of a number of business-related news pieces that we’ve gleaned over the last 10 days which point to some of the more immediate buying habits, sector trends, industry developments and initial commercial consequences of the floods.

Looking at the bigger picture and longer term, with our changing and increasingly extreme weather (this is certainly the wettest winter I’ve experienced in 16 years in the UAE) we also expand on how climate change is impacting the UAE and how this will likely add both certain risks and threats but also create certain opportunities to help mitigate, manage and improve the local environmental picture that do present  commercial prospects for agile and able companies.

And on a totally separate note, we’re also including a really interesting piece on your marketing approach to the region from our sister company, C Studios, which should be helpful for any of you considering how to boost your company’s profile, presence and posture in the Middle East.  Anyone wanting to learn more on this or who’s looking for help with regional marketing engagement should speak to Steve Duncan.

Regards
Joe
