Lulu’s Best of British Festival & Testimonial
Lulu Hypermarket enjoys a unique position in the UAE’s food and drink market in that it actively promotes produce from international markets. Whilst all of the country’s supermarkets carry global produce (the UAE is not a food producer of note), Lulu positions itself as the place ‘the world comes to shop’. The 2017 edition of Lulu’s Best of British week commenced on 6th April and showcased many UK products. When it comes to UK produce there is large demand for confectionery and snacks categories. In recent years, the demand for organic and free-from products has grown rapidly; something UK exporters have experience with.
Eight BCB clients showcased at the week-long event including debutantes Sharpham Park, Pudology, Riverbank Bakery, Atlantic Kitchen, Plenish Cleanse, and Olive Branch. We were very pleased to see continued support for existing clients Seabrook Crisps and A2 Milk, and I was honoured to be invited to open the Dubai event alongside Her Majesty’s Consul General to Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Paul Fox. The Abu Dhabi event was opened by Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the UAE, Philip Parham.
Lulu Hypermarkets targeted a 500% increase in sales of British products with the event with the hope that it will drive permanent demand for the newly exhibited produce. With more than 100,000 British expats living in the UAE and an estimated 15 million British visitors annually, Lulu recognises the importance for UK and UK quality foodstuff.
This video is a testimonial from Lucy Wager, Founder of Pudology, which makes gluten and dairy free chilled and frozen puddings/deserts. Pudology is a first time exporter to the UAE and Ms. Wager took full advantage of the BCB’s service to launch her products in the UAE.
