Inaugurated in 1987, Gulfood has grown to become the largest annual food and drink exhibition in the world. This year more than 90,000 attendees perused produce and manufactured products from more than 5000 exhibitors. Approximately 100 of those exhibiting firms were British, and another 75 visited as part of the Department of International Trade and Santander delegations.
Food and drink is an important export for the UK with the UAE market being the largest in the region. Popular products include confectionery, biscuits, snacks, and organic produce with gluten free and sugar free goods in constant demand. To facilitate this year’s UK delegation we prepared an e-brochure detailing visiting companies to send to UAE retailers. This document created interest and pre-event meetings were arranged with interested importers.
In addition to information for UAE firms about the UK delegation, we prepared a detailed guide on the UAE food and drink market for the visiting firms. This, combined with a briefing session from the Dubai Municipality on import standards, a networking event with DEFRA Minister of State Mr. George Eustice MP & 50+ local retailers, store visits and meetings with buyers from the UAE’s major hypermarket & supermarket chains, meant the delegation returned to the UK with a complete understanding of what it takes to export goods to the UAE.
