Dubai has long dedicated areas for the development of specific industries. Dubai goes beyond the traditional ‘Residential, Industrial, Commercial’ zoning we see in many places, Dubai creates different zones for different sectors. In the coming weeks we’ll explore others, but for the moment let’s look at Dubai Design District (d3).
D3 is positioned as a creative community, hoping to attract talent from all over the world. To help achieve this D3 is aggressively marketing itself at design and fashion shows globally, and, is creating some shows of its own. If you have looked at Dubai before you’ll know this is not unique to d3, Dubai has been marketing itself to the world for decades.
The Creative Community, an area of 1 million sq ft within d3 (and part of Phase 2 of the overall project), was designed following a competitive process involving a number of highly regarded architecture firms. The winning design was produced by Foster + Partners and is expected to officially open its doors to emerging designers and artists in 2017.
