Aside From Working, What Will You Do In The UAE?

Once settled in the UAE you’ll need something to do. Coming from the UK you’ll notice an immediate difference with the temperature here being twice as hot as it is there.  In summer it’s not unheard of to reach highs of 50c which rules out walks in the park and family picnics, however you do have an amazing six months in winter when outdoor activities abound.

The body clock of the UAE is similar to that of Spain, to use a reference you may be more familiar with. The Spanish siesta is somewhat replicated in the UAE with many companies outside of the main cities closing between 1-4pm. This means that socially families are awake later, it’s not uncommon to see young children in supermarkets at 11pm.

The UAE has a large number of cinemas, indoor play areas for children (and teens); the main cities have bars and clubs, or if you prefer something quieter you can visit a shisha cafe (although these are currently being looked at closely by the government in relation to second-hand smoke). There are a number of zoos in the UAE, the largest in Al Ain is a wildlife sanctuary of sorts – housing rescued animals from around the world, and working on a breeding programme for endangered species.

In the winter it gets colder (you may want to put a jumper in the car, just in case!), and parks and beaches burst into life…as do the UAEs water and theme parks. Add to these the cultural and heritage sites and the UAE despite its small size, really does offer a lot. And, I haven’t even mentioned scuba diving, off-road driving, sports clubs, international cricket games, an indoor ski-slope, and a very well followed football league…you won’t get bored!
